Position Overview
The Editor develops and curates content within a specific editorial category. This role ensures that all content aligns with Youngblood Magazine’s mission to celebrate Black creativity and showcases both emerging and established talent. Editors guide writers/contributors, maintain quality standards, and collaborate with the creative team to ensure that visuals and writing work together seamlessly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign, edit, and oversee stories within the assigned section.
  • Collaborate with writers, photographers, and designers to bring content to life.
  • Review submissions and provide constructive feedback to contributors.
  • Ensure content aligns with the magazine’s editorial vision, tone, and mission.
  • Maintain deadlines and coordinate with the Managing Editor.
  • Stay current on trends, cultural conversations, and relevant topics in the section.
  • Participate in editorial planning meetings and brainstorming sessions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong editorial judgment and storytelling ability with a focus on Black creativity and culture.
  • Leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance creative vision with deadlines and strategic goals.
  • Familiarity with publishing tools and workflows (print and digital).
  • Deep understanding of contemporary culture, media, and creative trends.

Compensation
This position is paid through a stipend, which will be distributed when new issues of Youngblood Magazine are released. The stipend amount is based on available funds after each issue is released.
