Position Overview
The Illustrator creates original artwork and visual storytelling that brings Youngblood Magazine’s editorial and visual content to life. This role contributes unique illustrations and graphic designs for print, digital, and multimedia projects, helping to define the magazine’s culturally resonant aesthetic. The Illustrator collaborates closely with the Creative Director, art department, and editorial department to produce visuals that amplify Black creativity and storytelling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce original illustrations and graphic designs for editorials, covers, features, and special projects.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and art department to align artwork with the magazine’s aesthetic and editorial vision.
  • Work with writers and editors to interpret stories and concepts visually.
  • Create digital artwork for web, print, and social media assets.
  • Maintain consistency with the magazine’s style and branding across all illustrations.
  • Stay current with illustration trends, styles, and techniques relevant to contemporary culture.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Professional illustration / graphic design experience in editorial, fashion, or lifestyle contexts.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills and creative vision.
  • Proficiency in digital illustration software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines,
  • Knowledge of contemporary Black culture, pop culture, and visual trends.

Compensation
This position is paid through a stipend, which will be distributed when new issues of Youngblood Magazine are released. The stipend amount is based on available funds after each issue is released.
